Read reflectionsA reflection from Pastor Scott
I first met Jesus through an old black-and-white television.
I was just a young boy, alone one afternoon, turning the dial and trying to find another channel. In those days, there were not many channels to choose from, and finding a clear picture could take some patience. But somewhere between the static and the turning of that dial, I came across a program that spoke about Jesus.
I cannot remember every word that was said that afternoon. I cannot tell you the name of the program or explain everything that happened within me. I only know that something about Jesus caught my attention.
Or perhaps it would be better to say that Jesus caught my attention.
There was something about Him that drew me. I did not have the theological language to describe it. I could not have explained salvation, discipleship, or the presence of God. I was simply a boy sitting in front of an old television, sensing that there was Someone there worth knowing.
That was the beginning.
My understanding of Jesus has changed and deepened through the years. Ministry taught me that following Him is about more than preaching sermons, leading services, or knowing the right answers. Pain taught me that His presence does not always remove the valley, but it does mean that I never walk through the valley alone.
Through life's disappointments, changes, and eight spinal surgeries, Jesus has become more than someone I learned about as a child. He has become my friend and constant companion. I have found Him in hospital rooms, quiet sanctuaries, early-morning prayers, difficult conversations, and ordinary moments when someone simply needed me to sit and listen.
What continues to draw me to Jesus today?
It is His presence.
Jesus does not wait for me somewhere beyond ordinary life. He meets me here—in this day, this body, this conversation, and this moment. I do not have everything figured out, and I no longer believe that I must. I am learning that my life is safe when I stay close to Jesus.
Perhaps that is the beginning of the With Jesus Life: not having all the answers, but learning to recognize the One who is already near.
So let me ask you the question I have been asking myself:
Was it something someone said? Was it a kindness you received, a story you heard, a crisis you survived, or a quiet moment when you sensed that God was near?
And what keeps drawing you toward Him today?
A prayer
Jesus, thank You for meeting us in ordinary places and unexpected moments. Help us remember what first drew us toward You. Open our eyes to recognize Your presence here and now, and teach us to walk with You one day at a time. Amen.

A fellow traveler
I'm Scott McQuay—a pastor, storyteller, and fellow traveler learning what it means to live each day with Jesus.
After many years in ministry, along with seasons of pain, change, and eight spinal surgeries, I've discovered that following Jesus is more than believing the right things. It is learning to recognize His presence in ordinary life—in quiet mornings, difficult valleys, honest questions, and conversations with people who simply need someone to listen.
Here, Now, with God is a place to slow down, reflect, and explore that life together. Through The With Jesus Life videos and podcasts, I hope to offer thoughtful, down-to-earth conversations that help us become more present to God and more loving toward others.
I'm not speaking from a place of having everything figured out. I'm simply sharing what I'm learning as I walk with Jesus—here, now, one day at a time.
Shalom,
Pastor Scott
